There are eight days of Hanukkah projects, with four needlepoint porjects currently, and four CRoss Stitch projects coming next week.

Throughout the month, they will be adding 25 free Christmas projects using a variety of techniques and Kreinik products. The link takes you to a calender that has thumbnails of them all.

Tomorrow a new free ornament pattern by me, I’m charting it today.

Happy Holidays from Kreinik

When I got back to my computer on Wednesday morning I had over 800 blog posts piled up. After marking as read all the obvious too bog piles, I was down to about 400. But that’s still a very big pile.

So today I’m taking a page from my daughter’s blog and doing a Clippings post. This is a collection of various interesting things she’s found.

Click through to read each full post.

From Craft Gossip blog an Denise Felton:

– Start a charming needlepoint sampler with this free series by Kathy Shaw of Shawkl. She also has some additional samplers and posts about needlepoint, found here.

– On Happy Zombie there was an amazingly clever and simple method for labeling floss if you use bobbins.

– You can download a free ebook of stitching tips from Bustle & Sew. I have.

– Here’s a little tool from your local home improvement store you can use for your needlework. You can see in the post, the many ways to use it.

– This adorable felt ornament from Bits & Bobs, pictured here, could easily be turned into an outline to make a charming Winter House Ornament or small stand-up. You could make them in many colors and stitches to make a whole village.

From Crafty Pod:

– A great round-up post on needlepoint. It shows some things from Flickr albums, and pictures and ideas from a vintage plastic canvas book.

From Lines across my Face:

– A clever idea for using up uncut skeins of thread by wrapping a frame with them. Since I have some of these IKEA frames in my drawer, I’m trying this one.

from Trish Burr’s blog:

Interview with fellow stitcher and South African Gay Booysen

– Here are her instructions for finishing the case with a lovely beaded edging.

There are lots of amazing new charts out, including a couple of Cross Stitch charts I have to tell you about.

DebBee’s Designs has lovely new additions to Diamond Delights and Glitz & Glamour. Opals is the newest Glitz piece. It’s amazing to me how she has managed to capture the elusive colors of the gem so well; it’s a stunner. The ninth Diamond Delights is out, featuring bright shades of orange, purple, and green. It also features a unique Memory Thread background.

Moonflower has three unique stitch samplers with one work sayings, Recycle (in greens), Conserve, and Welcome (in blues). These are simple enough to be a great first charted project. Laura Perin has teamed up with Nordic Needle for a series of four exclusive music box designs.

Brenda E. Kocher has two great new designs, Alivia’s Stocking, a Bargello full-size Christmas stocking (the first that I have seen), and Log Cabin Christmas, with lots of pattern texture, and stitches, including Hilton Stitches.

Handblessings has four Halloween Silhouettes in whole-stitch cross stitch that would make terrific needlepoint pieces with their combination of modern punch and a classic Halloween look. I just adored Ink Circles Project “99,” which has the canonical 99 bottles of beer on the wall and even includes guide to what they are.

Carol is an Australian needlepoint designer. She has posted this small design on her blog for all of use to enjoy. You can also just get the chart in a second post.

Cheryl Fall from About.com Needlepoint has this charming design, Square One, part of a series of what she calls “Needlepoint Doodles.”

I just love the way it uses several overdyes for a unique look.

They are great for using up scraps of thread and is small enough to fit into one of the Sudberry mini-boxes.

Thanks Carol and Cheryl!

Recently Linda K Reinmiller took this photo and using apps on her iPhone converted it to a chart suitable for needlepoint or cross stitch.

See how she did it and see the results in both techniques on white and black in her blog post.

How cool is this? Kell Smurthwaite of Kincavel Krosses has free charts of all seven deadly sins for you to stitch.

You can find them either by scrolling through her blog (link above), or by using the list below:

The site is a wonderful resource of great free designs, so take some time to look around.

And if you want to see hilarious personifications of all seven, go find the original Bedazzled, with Peter Cook & Dudley Moore. It is one of the funniest (if not the funniest) movies ever made. The sins are amazing — Raquel Welch in a bikini is lust, a drunk lawyer is sloth, and wrath is a bouncer in the bar owned by the devil. And the sins are just icing on the cake!

Thanks to Denise at Craft Gossip for alerting me to this.

Make a Needlepoint Pin for a Quick Gift!

There are some great free gifts that you can make using free patterns available on the Internet. Many of these designs use innovative finishing techniques.

My sister site, All about Needlepoint, has listings with links for many of these patterns. Today I’d like to highlight some of the categories.

One of my favorite ideas for a quick gift is a needlepoint pin. Amoung the highlights in these designs is a series of monthly pins by Mary Cosgrove, available through the Kreinik site. The Celtic pin pictured above, designed by Kandace Thomas is another one of the many small designs at Kreinik.

Bookmarks are another great idea. There aren’t many in the index, but one is a lovely design by Orna Willis that includes finishing instructions.

There are so many good ideas out there including a plastic canvas holder for “singles” of drink mixes, linked in the accessories for home list, a mesh bracelet from Orna in the accessories list wonderful sea creature magnets from ANG (listed under magnets), and lots of wonderful stitcher’s accessories, large and small.

Excerpt from:
Use Free Designs to Make Great Gifts

There’s a big list of plastic canvas patterns, over 125, available from Craft Stew. The list has been collected from all over the Internet, and all are free.

They are listed by name according to categories. Click on the name to go to the site with instructions.

Many of the patterns say “link” after them and, as near as I can tell these go to pictures of the project on freepatterns.com. The pictures aren’t linked to instructions, so I’m figuring you need to go to their homepage to find out how to get the information.

Thanks and a tip of the hat to Denise at Craft Gossip.

laura perin needlepoint pattern free of hearts for valentines days

Laura gave us a delightful Valentine’s Day treat on Friday (giving us time to stitch it).

It’s thie charming heart pattern.

I’ve been in a real pink, red, and white Valentine’s Day mood lately (it could be a reaction to looking at all those white walls). So I’m thinking that I’ll be stitching this tomorrow.

To get your copy go to the Free Patterns section on her website.
