Barbara’s colorful stitch painted canvases are so pouplar with stitchers and it’s easy to see why.

Being carefully stitch-painted, some with the stitch patterns actually painted on, even a brand-new stitcher can make something great.

Her bright Lily Pulitzer-inspired colors are so fresh and fun.

Finally her designs are whimsical but work well with traditional items, so they play beautifully with others.

On her site you can get a peek at what’s new for January. It includes more of her delightful “kisses,” news belts and brick covers, two summery beach houses, the lovely summer sampler, and a whole ton of design in pink, green, and magenta (some Christmas-themed, most not), that have a wonderful fresh look.

I’m excited to see them next weekend.

Over at the blog Pin Pals you can find some great quick to make (and finish) ideas for Christmas gifts.

Because they don’t have finished edges interlock is best to use here, but don’t you just love the needlepoint barrette pictured here?

And, when you go visit, you’ll just love the Needlepoint Inchy Bookmarks. You could even use these ideas as a springboard for projects for your kids to make.

If you don’t want to make them yourself, the bloggers also have an Etsy shop.

Thanks to Denise at Craft Gossip for pointing this out.

Written at the height of the needlepoint craze in the 1970′s, Rosey Grier’s book, Needlepoint for Men, is a classic beginners book on needlepoint.

Diane over at Crafty Pod has a delightful post about it.

These days Grier is a preacher in the LA area. Does he still needlepoint? I don’t know but I hope so.

Copies of the book pop up fairly often and you can sometimes find other posts talking about it.

This weekend I’m going to celebrate new products. There’s tons of great new stuff out there and I want to let you know about it all. Today I’ll do hand-painted canvas news, tomorrow charted canvas, and Sunday threads and everything else.

Ashley Dillon has a delightful new canvas, Christmas March, that shows Santa with a dog sled and snowman. It’s adorable and is distributed by Susan Roberts. Jean Smith has two amazing parrot tulips, one white and magenta and one yellow and red. Her simple but bold style really highlights the blossoms. Jean also has a Brown-eyed Susan Rug simply packed with flowers.

Eye Candy has two wonderful banners, spelling out “Christmas” or “Halloween” in her signature bright colors. Voila has six new holiday themed Fab Fob kits.

Melissa Prince has a lovely new canvas, Floral Whimsy, that comes on 13 mesh. The bright folk-art style flowers give you plenty of space to show off threads and stitches. Ruth Schmuff has a new series of three canvases, Flirty Girls.

There are also some delightful series of kits out from Wichelt & Kreinik you can make in time to give as gifts. High Heeled Holiday is from Wichelt and has four Debbie Mumm Designs on perforated paper. Kreinik has two series, Stitch a Pen has 4 holiday designs you wrap around a ballpoint pen that uses standard refills, Starlight Oranament features six different designed by Kathy Holicky. These ornaments include instructions for at home finishing.

Speaking of kits, Glorafilia has two new ones, a pillow of Morris-style Acanthis leaves and a lovely Arts & Crafts Floral on red. River Silks has a stunning ne entry in their Kits to Go series, Waterlily. It’s glorious with great stitches, including loops, and lots of texture.

Beginning November 1, 2011 Gail Hendrix’ two needlepoint lines, Squigee Designs and GCH Designs will be distributed by CBK Needlepoint Collections. They join the other great artists in this wide-ranging collection.

Anne Cram Designs now has a website at http://www.annecramdesigns.com.

Judy Harper is a talented needlepoint designer. She has just started a blog called FREEBIES,etc! which will have free needlepoint patterns.

A charming poinsettia is the first. On the site Judy has both charts and detailed instructions on how to stitch it. The ornament is 3″ square and can use your scrap threads.

Besides exploring her blog, Possibilities and her website, which has more of her designs you can buy, you can also read her column in every issue of Needlepoint Now.

I have also stitched her Blue Florentine Ornament and blogged about it.

I can’t wait to stitch this design.

Poinsettia Ornament – Free Design

Sometimes I think it’s both a blessing and a curse to live in a “tourist trap.” The curse is that there are often crowds. The blessing is that it’s easy to find related needlepoint canvases. And I do. I have many San Francisco canvases and have stitched and given away many more.

As needlepointers we tend to stitch memories of where we have been. But finding related pieces can be difficult. Today I though I’d give you a round up of many companies that make destination-themed needlepoint pieces.

Melissa Shirley is moving her studio later this month and, as we all do when we move, she’s cleaning. But she is not only getting a clean studio and less stuff to move, we are getting the benefit as well, through a wonderful sale.

The Needlepointer, up near Seattle and on the web, has over 90 Melissa Shirley Designs’ canvases on sale, at amazing prices. You’ll find all sorts of designs here, with something to suit just about every taste.Click on the link to see them all.

And the prices are amazing, around 50% off retail. The sale is limited to stock on hand and everything will be delivered around August 20.

Not everything is pictured on the site (the remaining pictures are coming soon). It also helps to know that the navigation seems to indicate that there are only 5 pages of canvases when there are really 10. When you get to page 5, just click on next and you’ll be able to navigate to the other pages.

Happy shopping!
