Recycle

Like Shannon at Madigan Made, I find it hard to resist the siren call of a good dollar store. You never know when a new craft might jump out at you! Case in point: she made this fantastic ombre beaded necklace using ponytail holder beads! I love big, chunky necklaces, and I'd never guess that this one started out as part of a dollar store ponytail holder pack. (Her idea of using sanding to give some beads a more matte finish is especially brilliant.) Follow the link to see the full tutorial.

Ever since I was a little kid, one of my favorite things to watch when I visit an aquarium has been the jellyfish tanks. The way their tentacles flutter in the water and their bodies move with such grace is mesmerizing. This tutorial over on BhoomPlay shows how you can use items you likely already have in your kitchen or recycle bin to create an equally mesmerizing jellyfish in a bottle.

You know how catching a glimpse of someone's crafting space while flipping through their blog can completely stop you in your tracks? That's exactly what happened to me when I saw this wine box sewing room decor from Desirée at The 36th Avenue. I want the walls of my studio to look like THAT!

You can head over to her blog to see the full how-to. Plus, if you're not a stencil-making expert, you can also check out her shop to pick up a pack of the same stencils that she used in her project.

Without a doubt, one of the most loved attractions at Maker Faire are the life-sized R2D2s that roam the fairgrounds. Their controllers are usually just off to the side of the groups of people who crowd around the R2D2s, smiling as kids and adults alike proceed to flip out over the droid who feels like a member of the family. I love seeing Flith Wizardry's recap of her kids' experience meeting R2D2 at Maker Faire, and the cool recycled project it inspired. She gives a full how-to on transforming recycle bin fodder into a cool R2D2 storage container. Makes me homesick for an R2 hug!
