Ever since I was a kid, I've adored the crunchy/creamy sweet treat of astronaut ice cream. Now that I live just five minutes from Johnson Space Center, the freeze-dried confection is the top request when we take visiting friends to the gift shop at Space Center Houston. There is just something idyllic and iconic about the space-age dessert. Ben Krasnow shows how you can build a freeze dryer to sublimate the water from regular ice cream to turn it in to the crunchy astronaut ice cream we all know and love. Bonus point for the mix of science and sugar! [via @proteinwrangler]

The latest venture from Alamo Drafthouse, the popular quirky dine-and-watch movie theaters based in my old stomping grounds of Austin, makes me happy on a number of levels. It's wine (hurrah!), it's cleverly packaged (nice!) and it's based on one of my all time favorite movies, The Princess Bride.

Alamo Drafthouse is delighted to announce the launch of a signature wine inspired by THE PRINCESS BRIDE in honor of the 25th anniversary of the film. The name of this signature wine program, "The Bottle Of Wits," is derived from the iconic "battle of wits" scene when Westley first rescues Princess Buttercup from Vizzini and his henchmen. The "Bottle Of Wits" wine line will include two varietals: "Inconceivable Cab" and "As You Wish White". The "Bottle Of Wits" will be available for purchase at all Alamo Drafthouse locations starting on Tuesday, February 14th and will be available for purchase online soon.

I'm a little sidelined by the realization that the movie is celebrating its 25th anniversary. I remember eating Sno-Caps and watching it on one of my first going-to-the-movies-sans-parents adventures like it was yesterday. I love seeing that one of my favorite Austin establishments is celebrating the film in this way, and can't wait to get a few bottles for myself. Aside from the tasty beverage, the bottles and boxes are display-worthy for any true Princess Bride fan. Now ... how about we start a massive Princess Bride quote-a-thon? I'll start: "You just wiggled your finger! That's wonderful!" Now ... GO!

If you've ever wanted to munch on the solar system, here's your chance. Chocolatier L'éclat of the Righa Royal Hotel in Japan makes these stunning planetary and meteoritic chocolates that come in beautiful galaxy backdrop boxes. Each planet has a different flavor, from coconut mango to rum raisin. The meteorites have flavors like earl grey/grapefruit and blueberry/vanilla. A quick run through Google Translate, and you can find the information to order the chocolates online. I'd have a hard time eating them, though. I think I'd just want to display them ... how about you? Thanks, Jessica!
This rainbow fudge recipe from Rock UR Party, the TableSpoon blog, would certainly make a tasty, eye-catching addition to a party table! True to my picky kid roots, I'm pretty sure I'd eat it one color layer at a time.

Fair warning: You'll have to take a few moments to sign up to become a member of TableSpoon to get the full recipe. The process took me less than a minute.

I've been experimenting with making my own salad dressings lately, and this one from Eat! Craft! Live! is going in to immediate rotation.

I was first introduced to a version of this dressing at Mother's in Austin. I tried the house dressing on a whim, I hadn't actually heard anything about it, and it was delicious! It may have been the first restaurant salad I had ever completely devoured. This is the only salad dressing I have ever craved.

Sounds like a great way to boost your motivation for eating greens!
