Bargello Is Back!

Hungarianpoint Checkboopk Cover

In case you hadn’t noticed, Bargello is back in a big way. You can see it everywhere. Domino magazine showed it last spring on a couch in a hip apartment. Jonathan Adler’s Bargello pillows were named to Real Simple’s list of must haves.

Iona Dettelbach’s Bargello book is packed with fantastic ideas and June McKnight has a new Bargello book out.

To keep you inspired while I’m at TNNA, I wanted to share with you my latest project, which is in Bargello Revisited (out June 2008). It’s a Bargello checkbook cover. It uses a classic Hungarianpoint pattern in neutral colors with a pop of red.

I stitched it in wool, so it will really wear.

But what suprises me most is how fast it was to stitch. I worked on it a little but, but last week I was able to finish stitching it in just a few hours.

By using the Lee Needle Arts leather checkbook, it got done almost before I knew it and is now ready to go to work.

And, even better, it’s the first of my President’s Challenge pieces to get done!

Vintage Needlepoint Book: Celebrity Needlepoint

celebrity needlepoint book

If you are a budget-minded stitcher looking for cheap inspiration, go seek out your local thrift shop, library sale, or used bookstore. Because needlepoint was so popular in the 1970′s, there are tons of great needlepoint books out there to be found cheap.

Celebrity Needlepoint is one of my favorites for inspiration. It has stories and pictures of needlepoint done by all kinds of celebrities including wives of politicians, movie stars, journalist, and more.

The technology of the time made extensive color printing expensive, so most of the photos are in black & white. Nor do they have the amount of detail we’d like to see.

This book was recently reviewed on the Crap at Crafts blog.

But it’s great fun. There are other needlepoint books written by celebrities including Loretta Swit, Sylvia Sidney, Sian Philips, and Rosey Greer. Pick any of these up if you can find them for some fun reading and needlepoint dreaming.

Thanks to Denise at Craft Gossip for pointing out the review.

Bargello Ornament Book Now Available

Bargello needlepoint ornament ebook cover

My friend, Althea, has just released the ebook version of her Bargello Christmas Ornaments. That’s the cover above.

The ornaments have been available singly for download, each for one week only, on her blog. They are witty original designs that make you want to go out and stitch. They are just simply creative, modern interpretations of what Bargello can be. Can you tell I just love them?

The book includes another six lovely ornaments which weren’t part of the original series, so there is even more to love. Just looking at it, I want to go off and stitch the mittens right now and if I needed a baby present, I’d make the sweet Bargello bow in a heartbeat and use it as a box top.

Anyway, click on over and get this book. You can use VISA and Mastercard for it and she currently has a special going on.

I’ve already gotten mine.

“Chicken Soup for the Soul: I Can’t Believe My Dog Did That!” and “Chicken Soup for the Soul: I Can’t Believe My Cat Did That!’ by Jennifer Quasha

What inspired you to write your books?
I have written more than 40 books for adults and children, many on pets, and when Chicken Soup for the Soul asked me to co-author their dog and cat books I was thrilled and excited to be part of such a great series of best-selling books.

About your Book:
101 Stories about the Crazy Antics of Our Feline Friends! We all rejoice in the simple absurdities, funny habits, and crazy antics of our cats. They make us smile every day, but sometimes they really outdo themselves. You will love reading all the heartwarming, inspirational, and hysterical stories in this book. We know after reading the stories you’ll say, “I can’t believe a cat did that!”

Book Genre: Humor/inspirational

How do you see writing a book in the Pet Genre as different from writing other genres of books?
Pet books almost always grow from a place of love. We are devoted to our pets, they make us laugh, they entertain and educate us. These are all wonderful issues to explore and share and teach about — very different from most other genres.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
This book popped into my head in the middle of a very difficult time in my life and just wouldn’t leave. The more I thought about it, the more it grew and fleshed out into a series. So I started writing and all kind of came out.

Author of Short Scripts Genevieve Sipperley Interview with @BookGoodies

Author Genevieve Sipperley joins BookGoodies podcast host Deborah Carney to talk about books, writing and current projects.

From Genna:
I was born and raised in Alaska. My town, called North Pole, was pretty small and I spent many nights writing away in my room as I watched snow fall outside my window. When I was younger, I started off writing mostly poetry and short stories. I was first nationally published when I was 16 and my first volume of poetry was published when I was 18. I had some minor success as a poet and short story writer, but after I graduated high school and left home for Chicago, I went to film school and that is when I knew I wanted to make the transition to screenwriting. During film school I studied Motion Picture and Television Screenwriting and I’ve been writing screenplay and scripts full-time ever since. I’ve sold a handful of short scripts and currently have a feature script being optioned.

“Lights, Camera – Wait, What?” is more than just a book of short scripts. There are notes on filmmaking that are ideal for new or independent filmmakers, as well as a quick guide on how to read a script. This book is filled with screenplays to film, scripts to read as short stories, or notes to use as a guide when writing or filming a script. Enjoy all of the different genres, characters, and ideas in this book of collected original short screenplays.
