You have probably seen the ads by now. Missoni, the famed Italian knitwear designer, is going to have a line that debuts at Target September 13.

But if you’re needlepointer, the exciting news is that you can see a preview of the line right now and get tons of inspiration for your needlepoint.

I found a great one at New York magazine, that has a wonderful slide show of the Missoni line in various room settings. And in the September Style Watch there is some nice coverage with some great stand-alone pictures of the products.

I love Missoni because there patterns can be translated so easily to Bargello, almost with no trouble at all. Take the outfit pictured here.

  • You could use the color scheme on the socks with brown every other row, to create a Bargello in this scheme using your own selection of colors.
  • You could use the simple zig-zag in the socks to do another Bargello in these colors or in others.
  • The solid bron stripe flanked by Bargello in the dress is so compelling — why not use the idea of a wide stripe with Bargello as a plan for a contemporary pillow?
  • You could use the hat for inspiration by flanking a stripe of narrow, colorful Bargello with a light neutral on either side.

And this is from just one of the pictures! Think of the possibilities in the pictures of the whole line.

If you need a Missoni Bargello fix now, I have designed two Missoni-inspired projects that are available free:

I’m so jazzed by this, I’m going to do some new Missoni-inspired pieces.

I imagine any knitter would love to wear a pair of these adorable yarn ball earrings or mini yarn skein necklace from Max's World. So cute and colorful!

Michael’s has complete instructions for a simple pendant stitched on plastic canvas using white floss. More floss is used for the necklace itself.

The intriguing thing is that the whole thing is dyed after it’s put together.

The necklace is pictured here and there is a link to the downloadable pattern at the bottom of the page.

It’s really a good idea to keep your eReader in some kind of protective cover or sleeve (the screens on unprotected ones can crack). You can buy all kinds of covers or you can show your creativity and love of needlepoint by making one.

If, like me, you are sewing-challenged and without a sewing machine, you can add needlepoint to an insert, above, or you can buy a Stitch & Zip cover.

But if you are at all handy, why not use this delightful tutorial to make an eReader cover from a piece of finished needlepoint. The needlepoint needs to be about twice the length of your Reader and 1 inch wider (so you can get it out. Line it with something soft and turn it into a pocket.

You can get the steps and illustrations from the tutorial. Thanks to Jane from Chilly Hollow for pointing this out.

DIY iPhone cover

Isn’t this too cute?

Leesedesign is making a DIY iPhone cover. It fits the iPhone 4G and has holes drilled in it so you can stitch a cover. It’s being sold through a company in Korea.

The kit comes with the cover, three shades of floss, and some charts. The cover is woven, like mono canvas, but is, I think, vinyl. It comes in six colors (white, black, pink, orange, lime, and blue). There is a great description with tons of photos on-line. You’ll see the colors about halfway down and below that are nine charts you can use to stitch it. The size of the cover is 36×69.

It’s so adorable, I ordered it immediately and then realized I have an iPod Touch 4G, not an iPhone. I hope it will fit anyway.

The cost is $18 with $4 for shipping to the US and you can order it on the product description page.

Thanks and a tip of the hat to Denise from Craft Gossip.

Colonial Needle has released four new products in their line of Lee Needle Arts self-finishing items.

They include an iPad Cover in black or red. It has a large area for needlework and uses the same elastic corners their ebook reader uses (my reviews of this product is tomorrow).

It comes in black and red.

Next is the same additional insert for their bags. It looks as if it’s the one used for Leigh’s popular Fash-Inserts.

There is a great alligator belt in white, red and black that uses the popular 3″ round/

Possibly my favorite is the two-insert nylon tote. It’s navy, a great color, and not only does it have places for two pieces of needlepoint, it opens wider than their other totes. It comes with two inserts so that you can change the look. It comes in black, brown, red & navy. One is on it’s way to me.

Binding Stitch is a tremendously useful needlepoint stitch.

It allows you to join together two pieces of canvas or to create a clean finished edge on your needlepoint.

M’s Canvashouse has put together a helpful You Tube video on How to Make the Binding Stitch.
